Programs


The Academy
The Academy is a strategic concept addressing community and political leadership development. Programs under the Academy include:
- Business Leadership Program | The Chamber has a successful history of community leadership development with our Chamber-PLU Business Leadership program.
- Candidate Academy | The inaugural Candidate Academy is set to occur in April 2013.  The program was created to assist in the development and preparation of candidates for public office

Business Improvement Area (BIA)
Founded in 1988, the Downtown Tacoma Business Improvement Area (BIA) has more than two decades of experience providing maintenance, security and streetscape improvements in an 84-block district of downtown Tacoma. The activities of the BIA are supported entirely by rate-paying property owners who collectively elect to pay an annual fee that supplements publically financed street sweeping and police services.

Downtown: On the Go! (DOTG)
Downtown On the Go (DOTG) offers services, resources, and programs specific to Downtown commuters, businesses, and residents. From informational presentations for your staff or group, individualized employee/employer consultations, forums, events, and more, Downtown On The Go supports you in trying or continuing your non-SOV commute!

Spaceworks Tacoma
Spaceworks Tacoma is a joint program of the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber designed to activate vacant space in downtown Tacoma with creative uses. Since launching in summer 2010, Spaceworks has supported 39 active projects (Creative Enterprise and Residency), exhibited 61 large-scale art installations (Artscapes), incubated 5 new businesses into permanent locations, activated 24 underused spaces in downtown, supported over 100 events and performances, inspired over 85 articles in local press, and attracted over 60,000 visitors to downtown Tacoma.


Regional Access Mobility Partnership (RAMP)
County issues are focused primarily on transportation, land use and criminal justice. The Chamber CEO uses a process known as the Regional Access & Mobility Partnership (RAMP) to make determinations on priorities with members and outside organizations. RAMP is a regional coalition that includes business, labor public and private organizations and citizens dedicated to improving mobility in the South Sound region and Washington state. RAMP is co-chaired by the Pierce County Executive and Port of Tacoma Executive Director in cooperation with the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber. Its mission is to ensure a healthy regional economy associated with the development of an effective, efficient transportation system and the resources to sustain it. The Chamber also maintains a RAMP blog, detailing the latest in regional transportation issues.

TacomaAngel Network (TAN)
The Chamber is a Founding Sponsor of the TacomaAngel Network. TacomaAngel Network is a non-profit alliance of accredited investors, who are successful entrepreneurs, retired executives, and other business leaders in the greater Tacoma and South Puget Sound area, and who provide investment capital, strategic advice and mentoring to early-stage companies or companies embarking on major expansion efforts to help them achieve market leadership.

YEA! (Young Entrepreneurs Academy)
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a year-long afterschool program that teaches local high school students how to start and run their own businesses. YEA! was developed at the University of Rochester in 2004 with the support of a grant from the Kauffman Foundation. The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber is excited to be introducing YEA! to the Pierce County community and to hold the first program in Washington state!

YipDeals.com
YipDeals.com is a new Neighborhood Deals Program partner with the Chamber to help promote members in the local area. Members can advertise their business to the local community for free using YipDeals. Participants receive a chance to get in front of 5,000+ of YipDeals.com Members, Email Subscribers, and FaceBook Followers. There’s No Upfront Cost, but spots are on a First Come, First Serve basis. Business Health Trust
Business Health Trust (BHT) is a state-wide benefit trust bringing together endorsed sponsors supporting small business. It is a catalyst for setting new industry directions, sharing expertise, fostering collaboration, delivering key business services and advancing the economic value and global impact of small business in Washington.

Veteran and Business Service 
The Chamber’s Veteran and Business Service is designed to bring the winning attributes of veterans and the Chamber’s business members together for success. A partnership between the Chamber and Workforce Central; this program will strive to assist Chamber member employers understand the benefits available as well as the skills, knowledge and abilities that veterans bring to a workplace and direct avenues to access Veterans as an employees.

Buy Veteran
The Chamber is partnering with the National Veteran Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) to create opportunities for all of America’s veteran-owned businesses. The NaVOBA has launched the Buy Veteran campaign. Buy Veteran unites the veteran business community in a single consolidated location on their website. Veteran-owned businesses can list their business for free on the website to connect with one another as well as the government, corporations and Americans who want to Buy Veteran. e-Certify
e-Certify is the new and efficient way fo process Certificates of Origin, saving you money and time. Mailing or sending couriers to get your Certificate of Origin is both inefficient and costly.

U.S. Commercial Service
Exporting strengthens the U.S. economy and is profitable for businesses of all sizes. On average, sales grow faster, more jobs are created, and employees typically earn more than non-exporting firms. As a trade promotion arm of the International Trade Administration (ITA), the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (CS) is committed to growing the U.S. exporter base.
